"I believe all food can be grown organically, and that energy consumption in the “civilized” world is excessive."

We're in total agreement here.

"And never deny the metaphysical - for there is a God, and He is watching!"

But here is where I would say we disagree. Not everyone believes in the supernatural or in a higher power. However, that doesn't mean that common ground can't be reached. Some believes that to live like Jesus did is to be good stewards of the earth. Some believe that it is good karma to treat the earth as you would treat yourself. Still others would say that caring about the environment is common sense and the need to keep things in equilibrium transcends all belief systems. Whatever the case may be, from whatever angle they come from, these people have reached the common ground.

I'm more concerned with organizing and mobilizing these people who have come to this common ground than I am in trying to devote time to those who would divide us for their own personal gain. It's about planting seeds, not just fighting weeds. Lies, by their very nature, are more complex and harder to keep together than the truth is. As long as we show people HOW to think, not WHAT to think, those simple truths will reveal themselves.

There is no shortage of well-meaning people in our world. And we each have our own capacity to mean well and to act on those intentions. Also, there is a great deal of partial or false information available to both well-meaning and malevolent people. Of course there is also truth out there, and seeking it is noble. But this fella seems to have stopped seeking truth, and begun acting on his underdeveloped ideas of humans' place in the world. I mean no insult, and his approach is not uncommon. But we must remember the teachings of our forefathers, and honestly wonder upon the systems they've developed - to what end? - in place of what? I believe all food can be grown organically, and that energy consumption in the "civilized" world is excessive. But never forget, there are those who want to lie to you, who benefit from having their lives believed, and who try their best to recriut others to their worldview. How would Derek Wallace choose to prevail over those enemies of truth? It is clear that over time, it is their worldview which has drawn the most supporters, and feuled by greed, the liars have taken the reigns of many societies. In this life, we have already lost. Just remember that as you fight the good fight, so as not to get discouraged by calamity. And keep studying. And never deny the metaphysical - for there is a God, and He is watching!

I am at a loss for words. It's so inspiring to read about people like Derek. I have been searching within myself and researching on various sources on how to can help, on how to change my way of living so that I can finally sleep well at night, and maybe help make a little difference. Recycling just isn't enough anymore.... I applaud you Derek and will try to follow your example.

So many habits to change, so few role models. Thanks Derek for dedicating yourself and your time and sacrificing the cozy existence that you would have had if you had followed the path of apathy. Thanks for having faith and finding new treasures in a conscientious lifestyle that has so many hurdles. It's time that we make better decisions, and the commercial world will adapt to the "demand". We already see it in the new ORGANIC FOODS section in our local grocers... and I know there's much more that needs to be done, but I am excited by the trend. It's thanks to those leading by example that have brought us this far... let's hope the movement keeps up the momentum.
