Hi Tanya, thanks for your comments. I participated in a smaller model UN a few years ago, and even then it was a worthwhile experience. as Mike mentions, egos and diplomacy collide and often the way forward is difficult. To be in New York must have taken the experience into a much more "real" atmosphere. After all, doesn't get much more authentic than the UN headquarters.

I was at the National Model United Nations Conference too. One of the exciting things that happened this year was that while we were holding our closing ceremonies in the Great Hall just down from us the Security Council was meeting. They were discussing sanctions on Iran. As students lined up to enter the UN along First Street many international media were reporting on the daily diplomatic occurrences. NMUN allows students to immersed in the potential for international diplomacy - both in the simulations and in New York. A very worthwhile experience - regardless of what Jon Stewart proposes!
