Thank you for the informative article and your thoughtful approach to the events. Many of the events like this are complex and need to be carefully looked at.

¡Vive Oaxaca!
Go now! It's a great time to be there. tourism is down and the political heat is just under the surface but not volatile. A trip to Chiapas is worth it if you have the time. San Cristobal de las Casas is an amazing example of an area that traveled through something similar in a very different way.
Que te vaya bien~

I travelled to Mexico last fall and had originally planned to visit Oaxaca. As this was while the protests were still on in Mexico City (walking down Reforma while the tents were up and busy was interesting) and Oaxaca City was still in turmoil. At least from what the news told...

This was a great write up of how multi-faceted any conflict like this is, and I'm feeling a little bitter about changing my plans. Rather than visit Oaxaca I went to Taxco and Cuernavaca. Both quite interesting and friendly, but I would have enjoyed seeing this part of political history unfold, if only for a little while.

Thank you Kym for the detailed reporting on Oaxaca. A friend was in Oaxaca for a year for all of this and was regularly updating me on the going-ons there and it was surprising to search the regular media outlets and find no mention at all of what was going on. The only major media reporter there at all until right near the end was a Reuters reporter.

Oaxaca from all I've heard is an amazing place and should definitely be supported.

Thanks, Doug.
