What can one person do to change the tide of a world which is faster dividing the rich from the poor? We know there are many things wrong at a global level with what is happening to people in third world countries. When you travel there and see it with your own eyes, it becomes that much more painful and real. Everyone knows in their heart that there are many things wrong with the world at large. But when you come from a privledged backgroud, which everyone not born into a third world country does, it is always going to feel uneasy and icky. The best thing anyone can do is realize with our consumer society is how much space you take up in the world, and try to reduce that every year. This is one of the very deep questions of life. I have periods when I just feel like hiding out somewhere deep in an unknown country and live my life without being bothered by the bad things happening. But I know I could not live with that, so must always DO something.
