My favorite way to improve my quality of life on the road, is through short term employment. Every couple of months I like to to settle down in a nice city, and spend 4-6 weeks working (usually teaching English). It usually takes a week of hitting the pavement hard, talking to everyone I meet, and running all over the place, but you can usually find something within that time. However, once you find a job, it's great to be in one place for a while, meet some locals, and replenish your bank account, all at the same time! Good Tips!

I did Rajasthan, India and was careful to choose a bit more of an up market place at least once a week. Not by blowing my budget, but treating myself to something different. It's amazing what a difference it made. And once you have a haven like that you don't mind going out and eating cheaply. the result is you head off more refreshed and look forward to planning your next more luxury place.
