Another way to deal with some more minor scams is the &quot;if you can&#039;t beat em, join em&quot; approach. In India I used to make a deal with the rickshaw drivers - he&#039;d give me a really good price on a long ride somewhere, and in exchange I would agree in advance to stop in to three or four &quot;craft emporiums&quot; along the way. I&#039;d stay just long enough for him to collect his commission and then leave without buying anything - which is what I would have wound up doing anyway but laying it out in advance saved a lot of persuading and arguing and a lot of &quot;no, I don&#039;t WANT to see any more handicrafts, I want to go home!&quot;</description>
