I just finished this book on my recent trip to Costa Rica, and too was both irked and humored by it. He seemed largely to throw stones for the sake of becoming the travel writing's own "Bad Boy", and frankly I just wasn't convinced. That said, it was nice to see someone rail against the "windswept veranda" style of travel writing. However I tend to judge books based on whether I remember the bulk of the book a week later, and sadly Chuck has already faded in my memory. Worth reading if you have a long layover.
