He seemed largely to throw stones for the sake of becoming the travel writing's own "Bad Boy", and frankly I just wasn't convinced. That said, it was nice to see someone rail against the "windswept veranda" style of travel writing. However I tend to judge books based on whether I remember the bulk of the book a week later, and sadly Chuck has already faded in my memory. Worth reading if you have a long layover.
