We are a family on an open ended world tour since 2006 and I can honestly say it has been the best decision of our lives!! I expected it to be good, but the family bonding, joy and priceless education has been beyond all expectations. We have 3 laptops and find it easy to homeschool as we roam including violin and piano lessons via Skype on the internet! It also costs much less than most people realize as we only spend 25K a year for a family of three. ...total expenses. We find we can live large on little as we explore the world in freedom for much less than if we stayed home. Our child gets a better education and we can also bring other school children and homeschoolers along with us virtually. We need more experience global citizens in the 21st century! It's all so true. We took my two children (10 mo. and 2 years at the time) on an amazing Alaskan cruise. It was a family trip so we were forced to take the grandkids and at the time it really was so difficult. They were bored on the cruise, we were bored because we didn't have the opportunity to escape and enjoy ourseles (yeah thanks to my in laws not offering to baby sit at all) and what I thought would be my favorite part of the trip, the whale watching, was a disaster. My 2 year old cried the entire time and I was livid. It's amazing to talk to him about it now at 4 because he remembers the whale watching like it was the best time of his life. The cruise had such a profound effect on him I would do it all over again with my family. Just might chose a cruise line that is more family friendly unlike Princess Cruises.
