If anyone out there is looking for an uber-romantic, very affordable wedding at a castle, check out the Czech Republic, which has a number of spots (other than Prague) to choose from. My husband and I were married in Cesky Krumlov, in Southern Bohemia-it was gorgeous and less than half the price of what we would have paid for a similar wedding in the U.S. Great post. We were not successful. It wasn't because I couldn't convince her. It was because we didn't plan. We would show up in a new place and then try to figure out if we could make it happen. No matter how basic of a ceremony you want, a lot of the resort-style places (like upscale the hotels in Mancora, Peru) need at least a month notice. But we didn't even know where we would be in a month. We also tried stopping by chapels in every town we visited. We were keen on the idea of getting married in some tiny village chapel in the middle of Bolivia. However, legal and religious issues always held us up (neither one of us are Catholic, which can be a problem in some Latin American countries where Catholics are the majority). We married after returning to the United States. I think that our parents are glad that South America doesn't make it easy to elope. They enjoyed attending the wedding.
