Despite the scornful comments and utter disbelief, from friends, colleagues and family alike, I still have two travellers staying in my house. I’m single and live alone and am use to having my own space doing my own thing, not having to consider anyone or anything, at all. My two dogs and I do our thing, and talk very little. The odd interruption, in the form of couch surfers, from time to time is always pleasant and they come, they go and we carry on with the routine. Just as these two African explorers start to get too much for me, they do something fantastic, or their focused demeanour pulls me back from the brink of insanity. I had to admit to myself last night that I’m really going to miss these people; they have come to define my life, the fullness and richness they bring to my surroundings. The love they feel for my animals, the enthusiasm with getting it just right, the thought and process that come intuitively to them. I have come to believe that they can and will make a difference on their trip, not because of any good deed or kind act, but because their intention and focus is set and comes from a clear headspace. There is noting worse than waiting for something to come that never comes, the determination and grace with which the waiting occurs is indicative of ones approach to life. “My” two travellers definitely have heaps of Karma. Love them!!! Keep travelling and touching lives!

Wow, I have been trying to explain to the naysayers just why I always feel so confident that my travels will be amazing. Now I can just direct them to this great article. Cheers!

Great article! I'm heading back to Europe this time and can't wait to have a completely different experience from the last time I was there. This article only served to reinforce what I was thinking. Thank you!

Great article. I'm happy to be able to call myself one of the lucky ones! I recently returned from a solo trip to New Zealand, where I was taken in by a couple of expats who were living the dream in a small beach town off the tourist track. By taking a chance and ditching my "itinerary", I made memories and connections that will last a lifetime, had an amazing trip, & invariably became the envy of all my friends back home. I encourage all travelers to be safe & smart, but flexible, and to take risks from time to time. People will surprise and delight you (& you never know what that cute stranger on the bus is waiting to show you!).

Happy travels!

Great article! People should learn to be more open-minded while traveling. Seems that travel and open mindedness should be synonymous because that's where the experiences come from.
