I totally agree, I'm stay in Shanghai at the moment. Almost everyone is kind, generous and I've always had help when I needed it. We can give the Chinese people more freedom by showing them what it is like to live under different government. Not only that but I think we're shooting ourselves in the foot by not understanding one of the biggest, fastest growing and developing countries on the planet. I don't see how the cleaning girl or my next door neighbours are anymore guilty than my friends in England. It seems ridiculous even having to write that. Thanks for writing this article, ts one of the best things I've read here

I've found over the years of traveling and talking to the rest of the world (non-Americans) mainly Europeans, seem to very condescending of America and it's practices. I agree that most of what the Bush administration has done is wrong, and that we over-consume, but Europeans are just as guilty of many of the things they accuse the Americans with. When Jacques Chirac was the president of France, many French had an easy time debasing Bush, and decrying Rumsfeld (whether that was with cause or not is not the issue here) they ignored that their President had stolen money when mayor of Paris, and trying to find a way to not get arrested for it. Nor did most of them know what was in the European Constitution that they all wanted to vote against at the time. Anyways what I am saying is that non-Americans easily pick on America for it's flaws, and ignore their country's problems. Whether their country follows America's example, or offer's token resistance no government is blameless. Most of what the world governments do we do not know, the world knows more of America's flaws because as the only confirmed Superpower the world eyes are pointed towards it to look for flaws.
