Hey, I DID find my ESP buddy in the train from Amsterdam to Brussel, but wasn´t my buddy. Saddly I had to step out in Antwerpen and was to shy to say something to her. The happiest 2h of my life. I leave dam without a broken hart - or a unbroken, for what matters - but got in Antwerpen with a shattered one.

If I had to stay close to home, I'd go to an unfamiliar neighborhood with an adventurous friend and hang out with strangers in a bar.

Maybe not for everyone, but my best remedy was: Foreign Country + Self. Best if you can't speak the language.

Mine was China. Every little step required so much energy and attention that I didn't have any left to dwell on the ex. The rewards were proportional to the effort. I got my confidence back, sure. But more importantly, I was forced to step outside of myself and just be acted upon. I left for China feeling like such a failure. I wanted to chuck myself into an experience, like a rag doll in a washing machine, and just see what would happen.

It turned out to be the best thing I ever did.

Just one rule: somehow, find the self-discipline to maintain a strict "no souvenir gift-buying for my ex" rule. Tough, but necessary to make the trip serve its purpose.
