Gracias Dani for sharing your experience. Brings up great memories of Ecuador for me, preparing and sharing the experience of San Pedro cactus (which also contains mescaline) high in the Andes. Very true what you say about the post-oneness feelings of "let down" in the all-too-urban world many of us inhabit. The broader perspectives on truth and meaning that one can gain from such substances seems to explain why the establishment finds them so threatening to its sense of order, for how could we perpetrate the cruelties and destruction inherent in our dominant culture if we fully experienced how interconnected we are with the rest of existence?

Books to help develop and articulate views on these themes can be found by many authors. Two of my favorites are Daniel Quinn and Derrick Jensen. Anyone who has been changed for the better by a similar experience would probably enjoy their works and benefit from investigating. All the best to you out there.

That was an incredible post...I could feel, breathe, taste, and experience the one-ness you were experiencing, the coldness you felt as the sun went down, the fire dancing in front of your eyes in the brilliant night sky, the vastness of the desert, was reflected in the vastness of your thought....you are a true spirit...I am on a vision quest, similarly broke, poor with things, but rich with experiences....

May our paths cross one of these beautiful days....

From my divine soul to your devine soul...

Peace on the Journey.....

Thank you for that colorful story....

Great post. I love the continuing metaphor of the eyes and thus the window to the soul...then the bursting grapes with the juice running down your throat. I thought, "Oh no! They're eating their boyfriends' eyes!"

Not really, but it was quite amusing.

I enjoyed everyone sharing their comments, but no one seemed to mention the sober beauty, melancholy, and utterly human remark that Dani made: "The trouble with one-ness experiences is that people can suffer afterwards, spending their whole lives trying to capture that fleeting glimpse of beauty, of order in the void."

I've seen so many people burn out searching for that trip, that wave, that poetic moment, and I really appreciate how Dani worked this into her article. No light without the dark, no city without the park. Buena suerte en Mexico...

Haha! Howl's Moving Castle...

As your experiences were, so are many people's, their first time 'round.

If you want some more food for your brain, I recommend "Illusions," by Richard Bach, "True Hallucinations," by Terence and Dennis McKenna, "2012; The Return of Quetzalcoatl," by Daniel Pinchbeck, and if you're feeling particularly deep, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance," by Robert Pirsig.

All books that I have come across since the beginning of my foray into the world of the "Plant Teachers." All full of some wonderful things to think on, and, for me at least, ideas on a new way of looking at life.

Enjoy your trip, and embrace what they have to teach. It is a good message, and one last past-due.

Nice post and recollection of your experience: sounds like a great time.

Never had P but had San Pedro cactus down in Vilcabamba, Ecuador and had a great day on top of a nearby mountain with a fantastic panoramic view.

Have experienced most of the views and sensations you experienced, with the unified sky looking like a great spider's web to me: a real world wide web!

You should watch the Doors film to relive your experiences, if you haven't already!

Beautiful post, Dani. I love the description of the grapes. You should head to San Jose del Pacifico to continue your mad, wild, Mexican adventures...drop me a line if you want more info!

Oh yes, the intense taste of peyote- I remember it seemed to flow from my tongue and mouth into my veins and every tissue of my body and come out in colors in the air that sounded like the sun.

As for truths and insights, I find P to be more of a body/sensual/dream trip as opposed to a head trip, like with X or A- the truths don't come up in your face, they operate in metaphors and images more. But that was so long ago...
