"but at the same time, this was actually true for more than a few people that I know who were pretty disheartened about the way things were going…"

As is true during any administration. As Americans we very often don't see eye to eye on things. Despite Obama's worldwide popularity, I'm sure there will be people leaving this country in the next four years as an escape from his policies as well.

Hey Pfeiffer, yes it was meant to be tongue in cheek, but at the same time, this was actually true for more than a few people that I know who were pretty disheartened about the way things were going...

Thanks Carlo, how did you guess? ;) At least he turned out to be a bonding experience for all of us on the "adventure" tour, and going all around gorgeous Tassie made up for it.

And the peeing-on-the-floor bit was at a club in Lusaka, Zambia. Good times.

Nice post Christine - I've been struggling myself lately with things that I've been starting but not finishing, so I will be taking a look at Mead's tips very shortly.

By the way, that guide in Tassie...that wasn't perhaps a personal experience, was it?? :)

Good tips overall, thanks! Vacations can be tiring...and if that's the case then what's the point? :-)

P.S. Although the comment about the US government in #3 was meant tongue in cheek (I hope) it didn't add anything to the article but sarcasm.

These are great travel tips that can be applied to everyday life. I especially liked points #4, #6 and #7. I had a former VP tell one of my co-workers that she created her own problems, I think he was right. This applies to travel. If you keep your thoughts positive and have a "go with the flow" attitude, you may have a pleasant travel experience. I would also suggest that travelers do not "build up" their travel experiences -- meaning get out of your head! It's good to be excited about your travels; however, if it does not happen the way you think it should happen, you'll be disappointed. Let that burden go and just have fun!
