I find religious leaders having an opinion on environmental stewardship is no different than a movie star having an opinion on it, or you or I having an opinion on it. It's just that movie stars and religious leaders have a lot more people following what they do and say. However, while I can understand the distrust on the part of some when religious leaders get involved and declare an environmentalist mandate from heaven, I think that they should be welcomed and asked to help out. If someone's got strong feelings for a cause they will work hard for it. (Ex. The church-based relief groups who helped after hurricane Katrina) It would be unfair to doubt their motives or discourage involvement unless given a far better reason than their faith or spiritual beliefs.
