This is an excellent article aimed towards the beginning practitioner.
I really enjoy how you went into detail on the different states and posture.
I’ve read a few more great meditation techniques here also http://www.themeditationmind.com/meditation-relaxation-techniques-for-stress-and-anxiety.html I hope you enjoy them as well.

Have been practicing yoga for years, and am very interested in learning
different meditation techniques. Vipassana Meditation is definitily the best way
I I could get out of the routine, and make some time for myself and reap its benefits..
Need to focus on a retreat closest to Raleigh North Carolina in the near future....

Thanks for the article, Adam. I sat for a 10-day Vipassana retreat in Nairobi, Kenya a few years ago and thought it was simultaneously one of the most awesome and most difficult things I've ever done in my life.

10 days is a long time. NO ONE has 10 days just sitting around that they can just throw around without a second thought. There are always other things you can do with your time, other places to go, work to be done, etc.

But making the effort and sacrifice to go on a retreat will yield exponential benefits. You'll sleep better, eat better, travel better, live better. You'll have more energy, be more focused, be more compassionate and kind, and be less irritable when the frustrations of daily life confront you.

Excellent piece, Adam. Meditation has helped me so much in my life & I'm always looking for new ways to push my limits. I've had a few friends that have done these longer meditations & I've been wanting to make the time for it for awhile now, so I think your article gave me the final push to create time for 10 days of this & work around that instead of the other way around. Thank you!

Great article, Adam!

I loved the part when you said, "Your mind will wander, and it’s shocking how quickly it will wander, often after less than one breath.", as it's so true:-)

There's a lot fo really useful info here for beginners in meditation. Vipassana seems to be the style that suits me too although others may be interested to know that you can do evening classes with the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO). They take thier inspiration from all sorts of Buddhist meditation styles, they are all over the world, and it may be a good way to get a "taster" if you don't have time to commit a full 10 days. I've also done meditation with the Brahma Kumaris, but I have to say I found them to be a wee bit "culty". Different style, also free of course.
