Daniel,
You've nailed it once again. This series is by far one of the best reads on Matador, in my eyes anyway. Can't wait to read The Return.

I'm just now finishing up a lot of healing back east with my family & begin my return journey 3000 miles back to Cali next week. It's been wonderful reading this as I've been integrating so much & giving rise to new things.

@Erin - I have read it - thank you for the excellent referral, though! If you enjoyed that, you may want to find The Way of the Traveler by Joseph Dispenza. Not as scholarly as TAOP, but a good share of worthwhile ideas.

Daniel,

Really valuable insight, powerful piece! I'd like to see a follow up essay on how this has impacted your own travels.

I hope you have read The Art of Pilgrimage by Phil Cousineau.

From Campbell's "The Power of Myth":

"I had the wonderful privilege of sitting face to face with [a Hindu guru] and the first thing he said to me was 'Do you have a question?' because the teacher always answers questions... I said, 'Yes, I have a question... since in Hindu thinking all the universe is divine, a manifestation of divinity itself, how can we say no to anything in the world? How can we say no to brutality to stupidity to vulgarity to thoughtlessness?'

"And he said, 'For you and me, you must say yes.'"

"Walling off the dark side creates stress" struck close to my heart, because this is so true in life in general. And yet we continue to wall it off as we continue living our daily lives, or own journeys, as we fear looking at them or "letting them loose" will drown us.
