Actually… at that time of 430am..it would indeed be an alarm clock disguised as “alarm clock”.! More insights on call to prayer next time, Baxter. Kudos on such great articles on Oman!

I’m in Al Khuwair all the time – the only thing is that sometimes God’s whispering is more like SHOUTING (especially for the 4:30am prayer

Based in Al Khuwair in Muscat= a stone’s throw away from the beautiful mosque by Radisson Hotel… Call to prayer is music to my interfaith ears! It’s God whispering in Arabic symphony!

Hey, Daniel – I feel ya on that one. Living in Nizwa (the Pearl of Islam) means I’m always in earshot of a muezzin but nothing can top the cacophonous call to prayer in Cairo, the city victorious.

We are working on a project documenting the adhan in Cairo as it is heard now – from thousands of muezzins – before the unification occurs.

Voices and Faces of the Adhan: Cairo is a documentary film, audio archiving and art installation project about the adhan. This 1400 year old oral tradition has never been documented or recorded for historical study, and it is about to be erased through modern technology. The film is fiscally sponsored by Hartley Film Foundation, with generous support from National Geographic’s All Roads Film Project as well as Hartley Film Foundation.

Living in Muscat, we used to hear the call to prayer multiple times a day. Quite beautiful. We’d never get tired of listening to it.
